A Victorian Knife by Henry Wilkinson of Sheffield
Made by Henry Wilkinson & Company of Sheffield, this solid silver-bladed fruit knife is date-lettered to 1863. Measuring 16cm long, when opened, the knife has outstanding, hand-carved mother-of-pearl scales: both showing a knurled geography and a single silver pin topping each ‘diamond’. The only damage is the single lateral crack in one scale. The bolsters are decorated with acanthus leaves and the blade, which folds away fine, has been hand-carved with foliage and fruits. All in all, this is an excellent and beautiful example of a Victorian fruit knife and one that is far nicer in person than my photos show.
