Rare WWI-Era Royal Navy Ephemera: Commander Robert Rollo Gore Browne, Wilkinson Sword-Related

Robert Rollo Gore Browne joined the Royal Navy in the early 1900s and served on board many ships, including HMS Vengeance, HMS Implacable and HMS Laverock. I find it difficult to read the handwriting in it but a digital copy of his service record is included in the sale for you to see the full list of his postings. After the War, he was used by the Navy in a more diplomatic capacity and he travelled to Italy, Palestine, Poland, Germany and other places. His service record describes him as being valuable, tactful and capable.

From a military family, his brother Harold was killed at the Battle of Jutland when HMS Invincible’s powder magazine was struck; and another brother, Eric, was killed in action while in command at a fort at Nhamacurra which was overwhelmed by a large German force.

Included in this sale is his torpedo certificate, gunnery certificate, midshipman’s rating, navigation qualification, pilotage certificate, three original photographs of him (one in uniform with a fellow officer), a very rare card of proof for his sword (numbered 41653, 1908) from the Wilkinson Sword Company, his birth certificate, a Polish 1920-dated evacuation pass, and a 1919 German identification pass for travelling to the free city of Danzig.

This is a special little grouping of ephemera with some very rare documents.

Postage to the UK is included, free of charge, and worldwide shipping is available, too. If you would like to buy this item simply send me a message via the contact form.
