A Sumatran 'Peurise' Shield

The peurise is a traditional shield predominantly associated with the Acehnese people of northern Sumatra who developed a reputation for resilience and military prowess, particularly highlighted during their prolonged resistance to Dutch colonial expansion in the nineteenth century, over two invasions by the latter and decades of guerrilla warfare, contributes significantly to the cultural prestige attached to such arms and armour as the peurise. Sadly, I only have room for two shields in this part of my collection so I am putting up four for sale, and will withdraw the final two from sale once the first two have sold.

If you’d like to own this shield, it is available for £185 with international postage available at cost.

If you’d like to read about the history of this type of shield, I have a large article on my Patreon.
